"525, Great Northway"

525 Great Northway was Monte Clark Gallery, located behind the Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

I did not get a chance to attend art school when I was younger. But before I decided to become a life-long artist, I went to Emily Carr from time to time as a “continuing education student” which means it was open courses for all adults and not just for full-time students. Although I wanted to study full time, as a “foreigner” it was difficult to move forward with it. I saved some money from doing some labor work and took an intermediate drawing course and a beginner’s oil painting course there. I was like a sponge, absorbing everything my senses could perceive.

The courses consisted of 8 sections, 3 hours per section. I took all the advantages I could get my hands on at the school, going to free drawing courses, using the library, attending weekly University Hall art shows, practicing painting myself at school studio after class, and basically doing as much as I could with the time that I had.

During my time at the school, I must have passed by the Monte Clark Gallery at least 50 times. By the time I finished my “continuing education” at Emily Carr, the gallery had moved out, and so this painting is probably the last glance of the gallery, and perhaps the only painting of it.

Why 50? Cause I am good at math.: )
